The solution for now is that Bungie has ultimately disabled the weekly challenges until a proper fix can be made. Unfortunately, this doesn't appear to be a fluke as the official Bungie Help Twitter account confirmed that a bug is preventing the powerful rewards from being given to players. Once finishing the challenges, players were supposed to return to Eva Levante in The Tower to receive the loot though the final part to this quest never triggers.
However, players who finished the challenge for this first week were surprised to find that the promised loot was not given by the game. The annual event has returned, offering special glow filled armor if players can finish specific challenges which include battling inside of the European Aerial Zone once more.
